Karrie Webb AO is an Australian professional golfer. She plays mainly on the U.S. based LPGA Tour and also on the ALPGA Tour and in her home country. She is a member of the World Golf HAll of Fame. She has 41 wins on the LPGA Tour, more than any other active player.
A five-time winner of the Open, she comes to the The Grange in a good place having stepped away from the worldwide travel caravan. The legendary Queenslander picks and chooses her events now but still harbours a fierce desire to win.
After round 1
Karrie Webb sits -5 after the first round at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open at the Grange Golf Course.
Webb spoke to the media back at the Club House.
“Yeah, I’m really pleased with it. Got off to a really great start this morning. You know, I hit some good shots and saw some putts go in, so I felt really comfortable there for about 11 holes.”
“Just getting off to a good start. It’s not easy to get off to a good start and be in position from day one and not feel like you’re catching up on Friday”.
Karrie had beautiful conditions and the procurial Aussie crowd helping Karrie making birdies in her 1st round.
But it did not go totally Webb’s way when it got a little scratchy in the middle. Webb hanging in and managed to birdie the 8th, which was her second last hole.
Webb yelled out a bit of “C’mon” there and she was getting a little frustrated. Karrie hit some poor iron shots on the 7th and was really poor. Missing left and hit it way right.
“Yeah, just mental error really. Yeah, the swing didn’t feel quite as good as it did early on, so happy to shoot to still 1 under on the back nine.”
