Australia’s basketball’s next big thing has officially entered the 2021 NBA Draft.
Josh Giddey, 18, is projected as a first-round pick and his stocks continue to rise on the back of a stellar NBL season with the Adelaide 36ers. Giddey is averaging 11 points, 7.4 assists, and 7.1 rebounds.
“I know that playing in the NBL has more than prepared me for the next level, so I’m ready to take that jump and enter the 2021 NBA Draft, ” Giddey said.
“The 36ers have done a great job developing me, and have put a lot of work into my game over the entire time I’ve been here.
“My teammates and the coaching staff here in Adelaide have helped my game reach a new level, and that’s only given me more confidence that this is the right decision for me.”
Giddey, considered by many as Australia’s best prospect since Ben Simmons, is rated a possible No. 13 pick by ESPN. His draft prospects should be helped by the fact the NBL helped deliver the rookie of the year candidate LaMelo Ball in last year’s draft.
The 203cm guard is renowned for his athleticism and ball-handling ability and he’s a strong chance to be heading to Tokyo with the Boomers this year
