The Illawarra Hawks have recorded a much-needed 87-81 victory over the Cairns Taipans.

Brian Goorjian’s squad were stumbling and had slipped out of the top four after losing three of their past four games, but they got back into form against the Taipans.

Illawarra led for the entire second half and pushed the lead to 14 points at one stage.

It was an even scoring effort from the Hawks with Duop Reath (18 points, 11 rebounds), Justinian Jessup (18 points), Antonius Cleveland (16 points, six rebounds) and Tyler Harvey (12 points) all having strong outings.

Scott Machado returned from injury for Cairns and showed no signs of rust scoring 16 points in 15 minutes. Tahjere McCall added 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Round 11 of the Hungry Jack’s NBL Season continues on Sunday with a double header. The South East Melbourne Phoenix host the Tasmania JackJumpers at 1pm AEDT at John Cain Arena followed by the Sydney Kings facing the Brisbane Bullets at Qudos Bank Arena at 3pm AEDT. Those games will be broadcasted on 10 Peach and Kayo Freebies.
