The season may be drawing to a close but footy fever will still be alive and well in Adelaide when it hosts the 2022 AFL Masters National Carnival.

More than 1200 players are set to descend on South Australia from September 25 to October 1 for what is expected to be the biggest tournament to date.

And, for the first time, the AFL Masters National Carnival will be broadcast to viewers across Australia with KommunityTV set to exclusively live stream 41 matches across four days of action.

Featuring players aged from 35-79, the carnival features seven men’s age divisions and two women’s competitions.

Every state and territory will be represented, with teams set to include former AFL, AFLW, SANFL and WAFL players.

AFL Masters president Steve Eurell said he expected the growing carnival to be of high-standard.

“Age is just a number,” Eurell said.

“AFL Masters has been working hard on growing our code over the past 5 years, particularly amongst the women and the introduction of AFL Masters QuickKick program this year.”

“Despite COVID, we have not been deterred and ecstatic that we are hosting our biggest ever carnival in our 40 plus year history this week.

“With 60 teams competing in Adelaide, we are a whopping 10 times bigger than our inaugural carnival in 1983 when just 6 teams took part.”

AFL Masters SA president Brenton Wortley said it was fantastic for the highly-anticipated event to be held in Adelaide.

“It’s going to be the largest carnival in the existence of AFL Masters,” Wortley said.

“SA alone we have record numbers with 10 men’s teams and three women’s teams, which is sensational, and it’s a great reflection of the growth of the sport.

“The quality of the carnival is of a high standard as well so anyone who is interested should come down and have a look. It’s a great family event.”

Richmond and Camden ovals will host matches alongside three playing fields at Barratt Reserve, West Beach.

Two grounds will be showcased each day on the KommunityTV broadcast with 41 matches across the four days of competition.

The 2022 edition will be the 39th staging of the annual event and the first time Adelaide has held the carnival since 2014.
