Proposed Adelaide Football Club Location

Adelaide Crows name former Brompton Gasworks as potential new headquarters site

The Crows have revealed a potential frontrunner site just outside the CBD as the club looks to secure the location of its new nest. The vacant former Brompton Gasworks, bordered by Chief Street, Second Street, Drayton Street and the trainline, could be transformed into a fringe space close to public transport and Adelaide Oval. In an open letter penned to Adelaide Football Club members, CEO Tim Silvers says: “Our plan to establish a new headquarters continues to be a popular talking point around Adelaide and I want you to know we are still actively considering a number of locations, while devoting most of our current energies to two key sites. To assist in this process the Board established a Facilities Committee, which is led by our Chairman John Olsen, and it comprises both external and internal expertise, including myself. Thebarton Oval is one that we have spoken about previously. This would involve a partnership arrangement with SANFL on land leased from the City of West Torrens with a vision to create a hub for community, as well as State League and elite football programs. We are having very productive ongoing discussions with the council and SANFL about this site, which fits with most of our objectives. It is close to the city and has the space we need to create something exciting for our players, coaches, staff and you, our Members and fans. Another site we are actively considering is in Brompton. The former home of the Brompton Gasworks, this currently vacant area is bordered by Chief Street, Second Street, Drayton Street and the trainline. This location offers its own advantages. It is just three kilometres from Adelaide Oval and a short walk to the Bowden train station and the tram stop. Its size would enable us to create something from the ground up, designing it to our own specifications while also respecting and potentially reutilising some of the heritage buildings on the site. This area is currently owned by Renewal SA, and we have commenced our due diligence in earnest. The project has been one of the Club’s key priorities since John became Chair and it has been a focus of mine from the moment I arrived. Ultimately, we want to create a new home for our Members and fans, as well as a place that provides elite training facilities for our men’s and women’s football programs, along with a home ground for our AFLW team. This is a complex matter and one that will define our future for the next generation and it is important not to rush. I would also like to say how grateful we are for the way all parties are engaging and for their involvement in the various discussions. We remain committed to being as transparent with you as best we can, while being respectful of the commercial negotiations underway.” What do you think of the Brompton site as a potential HQ?
